Tyler Cooney Quintet - Live At Jmi
This gig was based around 2 sets of original music from the band leader, Tyler Cooney. The band was formed off the back of a Freedman Fellowship nomination and used new material from Tyler’s previous years completing his Masters, which partly focused on composition.
The ethos of the performance was less tunes and more soloing, as evidenced by the lengthy recordings, and to have intricate arrangements that explored the makeup of a quintet to its fullest potential.
Modern Ideal
'Modern Ideal' is the debut studio album from Tyler Cooney and features all original music performed with Tim Firth and Nick Quigley.
‘Modern Ideal’ is a forward thinking jazz guitar trio album that blends interesting odd-time grooves, strong trio arrangements and compositions, telepathic interaction, technical virtuosity, and grooving swing together in a way that is rooted in the tradition of jazz, but also looks to the future.
Live! at Barbara
One of the last gigs I did before the initial lockdown at the now defunct Barbara on Warner Street. Performed on 1/3/2020 and recorded on a Zoom H2.
Eastern River
Eastern River is a solo album performed on a Martin OM-28E, and was written and recorded mostly in 2020. The idea behind the album was to have a few short tunes preceded by improvisations that would act as an introduction for each tune. The album is also bookended with an improvisation that was taken from the same session as the first improvisation.
